Description of the
If you have entered into a civil partnership and require a new civil partnership certificate, you can apply for one at the registry office. To do so, please contact the registry office within whose jurisdiction the civil partnership was registered. The civil partnership certificate proves that you have entered into a civil partnership with your partner. Among other things, it contains the names you use within the civil partnership. It also states the place and date on which the civil partnership was entered into. You can obtain the civil partnership certificate in various formats:
· As a civil partnership certificate
· A certified printout from the civil partnership register. This printout contains all the details entered in the civil partnership register.
If any changes occur after the registration has been finalised – for example, due to a change of name – the entry in the register will be updated by means of a supplementary certificate. Upon request, the registry office can then issue you with a new civil partnership certificate.
Prerequisites
The following persons over the age of 16 can submit an application:
- The person to whom the entry in the register refers.
- Ancestors and descendants, e.g. parents, children or grandchildren (relationship must be explained and, if necessary, proven).
- Other persons who can prove a legal interest, for example by means of a letter from the probate court, a court judgement or an enforceable title.
Deadlines
Civil partnership certificates and certified extracts from the civil partnership register can only be requested from the registry office up to 80 years after the entry was recorded in the civil partnership register.
