Description of the
Provided that your local authority has stipulated this in its water supply regulations, properties served by pipes from a public water supply scheme must, as a rule, also be connected to that scheme and use its services. Technically, this requires the installation of a so-called property connection – that is, a pipe running from the branch point of the public supply main (main pipe) to the handover point (the end of the property connection behind the main shut-off valve on the property or in the building). It is via this property connection that you, in turn, connect the areas on the property requiring a water supply to the public water supply system.
The property connection is usually installed, replaced, modified and maintained by the local authority. Please therefore contact your local council for further details. They will also be able to provide you with information on the technical requirements for connecting your property and the costs you will incur for the installation of such a property connection.
