If you wish to set up a tent camp ‘in an open field’ for a maximum of two months, you do not require planning permission for the campsite itself, nor for the tents or the necessary ancillary facilities such as washing facilities, lighting or facilities for waste water and waste disposal.
However, if the campsite is to comprise more than three tents, permission from the local authority is required to set up the campsite, in accordance with the State Penal and Regulatory Act.
