Description of the
Whilst attending school events, travelling to and from school, and whilst taking part in childcare arrangements organised by the school or in collaboration with it, either immediately before or after lessons, pupils at general or vocational schools are covered by statutory accident insurance. Statutory accident insurance also extends, under certain conditions, to volunteers such as members of parents’ councils or school crossing patrols.
The accident insurance providers in Bavaria are the Kommunale Unfallversicherung Bayern (KUVB) and the Bayerische Landesunfallkasse (LUK).
In addition to handling the financial aspects of accidents occurring in schools, insurance providers are also responsible for implementing accident prevention measures.
In the event of an accident at school, the headteacher completes an accident report and submits it to the accident insurance provider. They are assisted in this by the health and safety officer.
Costs
There are no fees for pupils or their parents or guardians. The costs are usually covered by the local authority or the Free State of Bavaria.Legal basis
