Exhibition: ‘In the Flow of Time – Jewish Life on the River Oder’

From 6 to 25 September 2026, the Förderverein ehemalige Synagoge in Kitzingen e. V., in collaboration with the Kulturwerk Schlesien Foundation, will present the exhibition ‘In the Flow of Time – Jewish Life on the Oder’. Conceived by the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe, this travelling exhibition explores the centuries-long history of Jewish life along the River Oder and is now on display on the River Main for the first time.
For centuries, the landscape along the River Oder was a space of cultural encounter where German, Polish and Jewish traditions were interwoven. The exhibition highlights this diversity, as well as the threats it faced from nationalism and anti-Semitism, and its destruction under National Socialism. It also explores the far-reaching changes that took place after 1945, when the River Oder became the border between Germany and Poland and new population movements began. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the German-Polish-Jewish cultural heritage and to engage in dialogue about it.
