How you can become active yourself

• Pass this flyer on and talk about it!
• Live true animal welfare by not feeding!
• Instead of feeding them, you can donate food!
• Have the courage to speak to people who feed our pigeons!
• If you are affected yourself: Close off nesting possibilities (e.g. with nets and tensioning wires) or get advice from us!

Feeding ban

• The city council has issued an ordinance banning the feeding of pigeons in Kitzingen since 1 January 2013.
• The ban is not aimed at letting the animals starve miserably. On the contrary! It is crucial for the success of the pigeon shelters mentioned in the next point

Pigeon shelters/nesting site removal

• Pigeon shelters are structures that are equipped with appropriate access hatches and nesting niches to harbour urban pigeons
• The accommodation is professionally looked after, i.e. the pigeons receive clean water and species-appropriate food, are monitored and kept healthy. To regulate the population, pigeon eggs are regularly replaced with dummies.
• A dovecote was installed and put into operation in the pillar of the Old Main Bridge at the beginning of 2016. The next one followed in a property in Marktstraße in mid-2018.
• Pigeon shelters are planned for other hotspots in the city centre.
• In the city centre, most of the open nesting sites in bridges and on buildings have already been closed.

Information and complaint management

• Information about the project is provided for the public and all interested parties
• The press regularly reports on the current status of the project.
• Those affected by the pigeon problem can contact the town of Kitzingen for advice.
• Complaints are received and dealt with accordingly.
