German Carnival Museum
The German Carnival Museum in Kitzingen - historically well-founded, entertainingly presented and garnished with carnival decorations - opened in November 2013. Here you can get to the bottom of the history of carnival in a fun way. What do "Helau" and "Alaaf" mean? Why does carnival revolve around the eleven?
Traditional carnival masks, medals with diamonds, shiny presidential necklaces and magnificent jester's sceptres - the Carnival Museum has everything a jester's heart could desire. And even those who don't like carnival will be amazed.
In a "virtual fool's theatre", a multi-media show, for example, characters in costumes from various carnival and carnival regions tell their stories. Experience the deafening roar of the parades and the dazzling riot of colour of countless costumes up close. The carnival museum was expanded in 2019 to include a training academy run by the German Carnival Association. The "Kulturzentrum Deutsche Fastnachtakademie" serves to support active carnivalists, such as the training of carnival speakers and guard dancers from all over Germany.
