At the beginning of the 21st century, Kitzingen set important infrastructural accents with the completion of the North Bridge. The withdrawal of the American troops in 2006 marked a profound structural change for the town. With the opening of the municipal museum and the town archive in the Kastenhof and the modern "aqua-sole" leisure centre, the cultural and tourist attractions were significantly expanded.
Kitzingen strengthened its international relations through another town twinning with the Polish town of Trzebnica. The Small State Garden Show in 2011 brought the town national attention and high visitor numbers. In 2013 and 2014, Kitzingen was awarded gold in the "Entente Florale" competition at national and European level for its sustainable urban and green space design. Its designation as a Fairtrade town in 2017 emphasises the town's social and ecological commitment.
