Enjoy four days of a lively atmosphere – right on the banks of the Main, with a view of the gently flowing water and the Old Main Bridge. This sort of thing is only possible in Kitzingen. It’s that time of year again, from 26 to 29 June. The 67th Promenade Wine Festival promises top-class entertainment, delicious wines from regional producers and plenty of wonderful encounters.
The town of Kitzingen and the town’s marketing association have once again pulled out all the stops to put on a varied programme for young and old alike. At the open-air Wein.Bar at the Bocksbeutelkeller, well-known DJs will once again be spinning tunes to get you grooving and chilling out. At the other end of this unique wine festival venue, well-known bands such as the ‘Frankenräuber’ (Friday) and the ‘Oberspiesheimer Musikanten’ (Saturday) will provide top-class wine festival entertainment. Sunday evening will be all about funk and soul with the “Monkeyman Band”, whilst to round off the festivities, the “Bayernmän” – well-known party starters – will get guests dancing and singing along.
The festivities kick off on Friday, 26 June, from 6 pm with a wine festival reception on the Stadtbalkon. The guests of honour will then – led by the Kolping Music Corps – make their way across the Alte Mainbrücke towards the wine festival site. The official opening, led by Kitzingen’s Lord Mayor Dr Enis Tiz, is scheduled for around 7 pm. On Saturday, the lively festivities will also begin at 6 pm. The selection of food and drink is as varied as ever, with the organisers once again prioritising local partners. A glass of Franconian wine is available from as little as five euros. The wineries from Kitzingen and the neighbouring communities will also be offering a wide range of specialities from their cellars.
Wine Festival Sunday begins with an ecumenical service at 10.30 am, followed by a musical morning get-together from 11.30 am, with the Big Kitz Band providing the music. A lavish lunch is served, and from 2 pm to 5 pm the Wine Princesses will be delighting the youngest visitors to the wine festival with their programme. Meanwhile, parents can chat in peace over a glass of Secco, wine or a non-alcoholic drink. The ‘Frankonia Sextett’ will create a wonderful wine festival atmosphere from 2 pm to 4.30 pm with Franconian brass band music.
Monday evening draws to a close with ‘Bayernmän’. There won’t be any fireworks this year to mark the World Cup. It’s quite possible that the German national team will be playing their round of 32 match at 10.30 pm – and setting off their own fireworks on the pitch in Boston.
